The Brief
Geocentric is a Cape Town–based urban management company that oversees a portfolio of 14 City Improvement Districts (CIDs) across the Western Cape. Their work spans public safety, urban cleaning, placemaking and stakeholder communication across multiple districts, each with its own website, audience and reporting requirements.
Over time, the CID websites had been built at different stages and by different service providers, resulting in inconsistencies in structure, functionality and design. In addition, Geocentric required ongoing communications support to help produce clear, informative content – particularly newsletters, website updates and social media – that explain the work of the districts to businesses, property owners and the wider public.
Our solution
In 2018, we were recruited to take over social media for Woodstock Improvement District (WID) – being based in the area, and having a reputation for content marketing and social media that was community-centred, well designed and took a user-centred, content-first approach. We redesigned the newsletter and social media assets, and developed a content strategy focused on community alongside the work of the CID, in order to drive engagement and involvement.
After a few years, Geocentric took over management of WID and invited One Day Company to extend that approach across all 14 CIDs they manage – from Salt River through to Somerset West. The challenge was significant: each district has its own website, audience and area challenges, yet communications needed to be consistent, cost-effective and high quality across the board.
Our response was to design a scalable communications system rather than treat each district as a separate project. We developed a unified website framework that could be cloned and adapted across multiple CID sites – maintaining structural consistency while allowing each district’s content, contacts and character to come through. This phased approach means new districts can be onboarded efficiently as budget allows, without starting from scratch each time.
The same thinking applies to our ongoing content work. Rather than producing communications in isolation, we operate as an embedded content partner – managing newsletters, social media and WhatsApp broadcasts across the portfolio in a way that keeps messaging coherent, reduces duplication of effort, and ensures each district’s community sees the day-to-day work of urban management made visible and easy to understand.
