The Brief

Kommetjie Life is a local media publication dedicated to telling the stories of Kommetjie and the surrounding Cape Peninsula community. The platform celebrates the people, places and natural environment that shape life in this coastal village – from surfers and artists to local businesses.

The goal has been to grow the platform into a meaningful community resource while maintaining an authentic local voice that reflects the character and spirit of the area – contributing to community development and togetherness.

Our solution

Through long-form articles, interviews and photo essays, we have developed an editorial approach that highlights the diverse personalities and landscapes that define life in Kommetjie and along the peninsula.

Content ranges from profiles of local creatives and entrepreneurs to environmental stories about the coastline, wildlife and conservation efforts in the area. Visual storytelling plays an important role, with video and photography used to document the textures and rhythms of everyday life in the village.

Alongside editorial content, the platform includes a curated local directory that connects readers with independent businesses and services in the area. The aim is not only to document the character of Kommetjie, but also to support the local economy and strengthen community connections.

Along with the website Kommetjielife.com, the Instagram account has the most widespread following of the digital presence, and a quarterly newsletter serves to send community updates on events, magazine features and new additions to the Directory.

As a producer, Kommetjie Life is also working on a number of creative projects, including a soundscape music video called Sounds of Kommetjie.
