Sharing stories this Mandela Day

We invite you to join us for our 2016 Mandela Day project to bring the magic and power of books and reading to children of a disadvantaged community in Cape Town.

Here at One Day Company we’re passionate about the power of stories. The ability to read and, by extension, a love of reading is something we believe to be a key building block of education. And, in the words of Nelson Mandela, “education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world”.

In celebration of Madiba’s legacy we’re doing our small bit this Mandela Day by sharing stories. We’re doing this by collecting age-appropriate books for a school library and building bookshelves with discarded pallet wood for the books in their new home.

The more you read
The more you know
The more you know
The smarter you grow

We’ll share more details about the project and the school that will be receiving the books here shortly. In the meantime, if you have any books – reference, fiction, non-fiction, dictionaries, magazines, encyclopedias – that are looking for a new home or just collecting dust on your bookshelf, please consider donating it to this initiative. We’re looking specifically for books that would be suitable for primary school children, aged 6 to 13 years.

If you’re keen to join our efforts on Saturday, 16 July 2016 please send an email to hello@onedaycompany.co.za. We’ll be delivering the books to the school, installing the bookshelves and having story time with the children. If you are able to make a donation, in the form of books, pallet wood, paint for the bookshelves, or cash, to this initiative, please also send an email to hello@onedaycompany.co.za and we’ll arrange to collect it from you.

We had a great time last year building kennels for the animals of the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha and we look forward to another meaningful project this year.

Together we can make somebody’s one day brighter!
