The Brief

Haldane Martin is a well-established designer and one of South Africa’s best-known furniture and interior design studios. Haldane Martin originally approached One Day to rewrite his company profile in line with his realigned business strategy that saw an increasing focus on concept interiors and at the same time saw him outsourcing the production aspects of his furniture business. He also asked us to pitch on content marketing.

Our solution

One Day saw this as a great opportunity to use content marketing to reposition the brand within the design industry and in the eyes of the general public. Haldane Martin has always been synonymous with iconic furniture design but was less known for his interiors. His first commercial interior was Truth Coffee HQ, the steampunk roastery and coffee shop in Cape Town’s east city precinct, and he had worked on several concept interiors for South African brands and businesses since then.

Using a series of hard-working press and social media campaigns to promote the studio’s interior design work, combined with regular updates on the company website, a quarterly newsletter, and social posts designed to establish thought leadership and actively engage in community involvement, the transition has taken shape.

In August 2015 we saw this success come to tangible fruition: after consulting with Haldane Martin on entering his interior for Truth into the Loerie Awards and working on the copywriting for the entry, the studio walked away with the top prize in the category. Haldane Martin won a gold Loerie for Three Dimensional & Environmental Design – Interior Design & Temporary Structures, a subcategory of Communication Design. One Day was allowed the honour of collecting the award on Haldane Martin’s behalf. The award was certainly a win for One Day, our client Haldane Martin and his client Truth Coffee.

In 2017 we redesigned his website at, prioritising a mobile first layout and creating a platform that better showcased his beautiful designs with large images within an easy-to-navigate information architecture.
